Driving while exhausted, or not fully alert can be a dangerous task. This lesson was hammered home in the wee hours of Wednesday morning last week when a driver fell asleep at the wheel of their car while going through King George and plowed into the Opp Shop, a thrift store that is frequented by people from several neighboring counties, including Westmoreland. Amazingly, nobody was injured, though the damage to the shop was extensive.
This is not the first time the Opp Shop has been given an impromptu drive-thru, but the fourth.
The most recent time before this was, according to one Opp Shop proprietor, Phyllis Gibson, “maybe four or five years ago in the morning. A lady was bringing her parents home from the hospital and had been up through the night. I don’t know about the other two times, but the people that were doing repairs were talking about taking count of how many times it’s been hit.”
