The W&L Eagles varsity baseball team traveled to and defeated the Mathews Blue Devils on Tuesday, March 26 (14-3). They played in the Wells Fargo Invitational tournament at Dream Fields in Lancaster on Friday, and Saturday, March 29 and 30 against the Nandua Warriors and the Mathews Blue Devils. In the first game against the Blue Devils, the Eagles were behind (0-2) after the first inning. They tied the game (2-2) in the top of the fourth then the Blue Devils took the lead (2-3). The game was tied (3-3) in the top of the sixth when the Eagles bats came to life as they put up four runs in the sixth and seven in the top of the seven to break the game open (14-3). Trendon Craig went 3 for 3 with 3 rbi’s, scored two runs, and stole 2 bases, Jimmy McIntosh had 2 hits, 3 rbi’s, and stole 2 bases, Jordan Peyton 1 hit and 3 rbi’s, Nick Balderson 1 hit and 2 rbi’s, Colby Jenkins 1 hit and 1 rbi, and Henry Long 1 hit and 1 rbi. Jordan Peyton went 3.2 innings in relief with 8 K’s for the win.
