Eagles remain ahead of rivals

The Washington & Lee Cross Country Teams took high honors in the opening meet against fellow district high schools on Sept. 4.

In the girls race, W&L’s Kathryn Beddoo placed first with a time of 21:35 and Lancaster’s Ronnie Cutler placed first in the boys race with a time of 18:51.

In the girls’ team competition, W&L finished with a score of 25 followed by Lancaster with 31. Then in the boys’ meet, W&L finished with a score of 22 and

Lancaster with 38. Neither team from Essex or Northumberland could field a team.

A total of 40 runners participated in the boys’ race finished in top place by Cutler.

W&L’s Hasan Gill (18:43) in second, Northumberland’s Billy Pipkin (20:21) in sixth and Essex’s Tim Rollins (22:18) in 17th followed Cutler in the race leading their respective teams.

Girls Race (W&L): 2-Hasan Gill-18:43, 3-Alec Westall-19:10, 4-Jacob Daiger-19:29, 5-James Snider-20:11, 9-Moses Oviedo-20:45, 10-Zach Bowen-21:04, 11-Sergei Minor-21:07, 13-Jay Jims-21:18, 18-Thomas Rust-22:21, 19-Jeremy Saunders-22:41, 21-Jamie Garland-24:06, 23-E. MacNamara-24:17 and 34 (JV)-Matt Squires-28:08

A total of 28 runners participated in the girls’ race finished in top place by Beddoo.

Northumberland’s Sarah Schindler (23:18) in second, Lancaster’s Mary Frere (23:26) in third and Essex’s Kate French (27:36) in eighth followed Beddoo in the race leading their respective teams.
