The Greater Montross Partnership for Revitalization (GMPFR) in conjunction with the Montross Revitalization Steering Committee is happy to announce an evening of Mural Art featuring award-winning artists Melanie Stimmell and Anat Ronen on Friday, June 6, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
In addition to the First Friday Montross Art Walk, Stimmell, from California, and Ronan, from Houston, Texas, have been commissioned to paint three large-scale murals in the “village” of Montross. In keeping with the revitalization theme of “return to the village”, murals will be painted on the side of Bridget’s Boutique, Carrot Cottage and another mural will be on the side of the old Wakefield Furniture building, now undergoing renovation, by the Westmoreland County Museum. The artists have also been hired to touchup the current mural on the Montross Coke-a-Cola plant during their visit to Montross.
One can expect to see the artists putting the finishing touches on the murals along with live music by the Blackthorn String Band and partake in the wine garden hosted by our award-winning vineyard The Hague Winery.
More than three years into its revitalization efforts, Montross is enjoying a small surge in art and antique shops opening, and hopes through its revitalization efforts more businesses will join the momentum. A number of facade improvement projects are underway, and over the next year the village will enjoy new lighting treatment, park benches, crosswalks and tree plantings.
