Saturday, May 25
Walk to see the stately Kentucky lady slipper and other mountain plants at Hickory Hollow Natural Area Preserve in Lancaster County, 10 a.m. until 12 noon with Master Naturalist Ellis Squires and the Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society. Meet about 0.3 miles north of Rt. 3 on Regina Rd. (Rt. 604). Info at 804 436-4944. Bring water, a camera or binoculars if desired.

Colonial Beach Lions Club holds a Yard and Bake Sale from 8 a.m. – 12 noon at the Lions Rec Center, 717 Marshall Ave. Proceeds benefit community affairs.

Spring on the Plantation, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. George Washington National Birthplace. 18th century activities and demonstrations such as sheep shearing, tobacco planting, blacksmithing and open hearth cooking will be offered at Popes Creek Plantation.

Monday, May 27
The Community Memorial Day Service, 11 a.m., War Memorial in Colonial Beach. Open House at the American Legion Post #148 following the ceremony. In case of inclement weather, entire ceremony will be held at the American Legion Post on Colonial Ave.

Memorial Day Observance, 11a.m. at Montross Courthouse. Free hot dogs and drinks. Bring a chair and enjoy the program sponsored by Montross Tea Party.

Friday, May 30
The University of Mary Washington Small Business Development Center Warsaw offers an Expense Tracking workshop, 6:30 -8:30 p.m., 479 Main St., Warsaw. The importance of expense tracking for managing finances. $25. Deadline May 22. Info 804-333-0286.

Saturday, June 1
Relay for Life of Westmoreland, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Washington and Lee High School, Montross

Children are urged to participate in a fun fishing outdoor activity titled “Hooked On Fishing – Not On Drugs.” Sponsored by the Westmoreland Optimist Club’s it will be held at Mr. Gary Hutt’s pond on Saturday, June 1 at 9 a.m. For more information, call 804-472-2859.

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Northern Neck Chapter 1823 will meet at 1 p.m. for a wine tasting and special hors d’oeuvres at General’s Ridge Vineyard and Winery, 1618 Weldons Dr., Hague. The executive board meets 12 noon. Info, call 804.472.3051. $

June 8
Friends of The Haven Yard Sale 8 a.m. -12 noon around The Haven’s  administrative office and Thrift Store, 5726 Richmond Rd. in Warsaw. $1, $5, and $10 tables and a “make me an offer” area. Come by and find a great deal!  If you have items to donate for the yard sale, please drop them off by June 6th.

The Shoppe for Haven’s Sake Thrift Store will be offering a $10 bag sale that will start on June 8th.  Purchase a bag full of summer clothing for only $10.
