Healthy Harvest Food Bank in Warsaw is a major support system for many people in the community. The food bank distributed 248,830 pounds of food valued at $423,011 to those in need in Westmoreland County last year.
In this rich agricultural area of the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula where productivity plays a large part in providing food for American consumers, one in six children, seniors, or working parents don’t have enough food to eat. Statistics show one in every six individuals struggle with food insecurity.
All foods distributed throughout the county include 44 percent of fresh produce. “Healthy Harvest Food Bank sends out the highest percentage fresh produce than any other food bank in the state of Virginia,” said Director of Development, Cindy Balderson. “We feel it is our duty to return to families in need the dignity of choice and allow children the normalcy of experiencing fresh fruit and vegetables as part of their diets.”
