The Northern Neck Food Bank and local growers in the Northern Neck have teamed up and together are helping to donate over 5,000 pounds of produce per week. During what they call the Monday Produce Run, the food bank visits several growers around the NNK who have generously offered to donate what is left over after markets in Washington, DC and Northern Virginia.
Carolyn Quinn of the Northern Neck Food Bank said they pick up produce from about six to eight growers each Monday morning for a total donation of over 5,000 pounds per week. “That is a tremendous amount of produce and goes a long way to feed our clients throughout our six county distribution area,” Quinn said.
The food bank distributes to Westmoreland, Richmond County, Lancaster, Northumberland, Middlesex and Essex.
Each Monday they regularly pick up from the Flores Farm, Three Way, Laurel Grove Farms, Lois’ Produce, Valencia Farm and Garner’s Produce. Other growers call as they have excess produce as well.
