There are few people more beloved in Westmoreland County than Jay McCurdy. Standing at well over 6 ½ feet tall with a loud booming voice and stories as wild as they come, he is universally known as an amazing person. Everyone knows him whether by Jay, or Big Jay; he’s a friend to everyone.
McCurdy is always the first person to offer help to a neighbor, friend, or stranger and has to many of those in his community.
On October 9 while working for his tree service business, McCurdy fell from 30 feet in the air to the ground. Landing on his feet, left side first he shattered most of the bones in his body from the waist down.
On top of that he also suffered a fractured sternum from the impact.
November 9 from 3 until 10 p.m. at Placid Bay Civic Center at 67 Mattox Creek Drive, a fundraiser to help keep Jay and his wife Brenda going will be held. Stumblefoot band will play as well as a dinner of barbecue chicken will be served for donations.
An auction will be held during the event with items from various local businesses.
