Sometimes it is best to go to the experts for the right answers. This year the GEAR UP class of 2020 at Washington & Lee High School has been inviting expert guests in for Saturday morning breakfast sessions. So far, they have learned about Tutor.com and NASA. This month it was all about preparing for college. Three graduates from the class of 2012 spoke about the trials and tribulations they experienced in preparing for college and what they discovered at college.
The students representing the class of 2012 were Tiell Tate, Tameka Parker and Cecelia Shryock Luna. Between the three, a lively discussion on everything from what you would tell your younger self now to where do you see yourself in five years entertained the audience.
The three young ladies were articulate, funny, informed and highly enlightening. When asked about financial preparation, all agreed their GEAR UP scholarships were extremely helpful. Ms. Tate found out how little she was prepared. “I was ready for the college experience, but found it was like a new mall; lots of places to explore and learn about.
