Nobody likes being in the middle of a no-service hole, especially when the area is isolated enough to cut the people there off from broadband completely. Fortunately, the region has a way to try to fix that. Back in March this year, Governor Northam had announced nearly $5 million in grants through VATI for projects across Virginia, with the goal of bringing broadband service to areas with no coverage at all. On July 18, a meeting at the Northern Neck Planning District Commission was held that brought in representatives from all the counties in the Northern Neck, as well as King George, Caroline, Middlesex, and Mathews Counties. Also on hand was Bill Newborg of Atlantic Broadband.
In order to participate in this joint application, each county representative would have to gain approval from the county’s Board of Supervisors, which would allow for a 50% match towards the projects of their selection.
