Gerry Roy and Greg Hewitt raised more than $3,100 for the Northern Neck Food Bank.

In June 2017, with the help of family and friends, Gerry Roy and Greg Hewitt, part-time residents of Hague, exceeded their $1,000 commitment to the Food Bank Champions Program by raising over $3,100 in contributions, setting a record for the most contributions received through the program.

Gerry and Greg discovered the Northern Neck in 2004 and have been returning to the area every summer and will eventually reside here full-time. They recently celebrated their union and asked guests at the occasion to give to the Northern Neck Food Bank in an effort to give back to the community.

Food Bank Champions is a grass-roots campaign to raise funds to support the vital work of the Northern Neck Food Bank said Director of Development, Cindy Balderson. The concept is simple. Individuals or any group of individuals commit to raise a minimum of $1,000 to benefit the Northern Neck Food Bank. They can involve anyone they like to support and assist in their fundraising efforts.

The designated minimum of $1,000 provides residents in need with 24,000 servings of fresh vegetables supplied by local farmers or supplemental nutritious food for over 400 individuals reported Balderson.
