This same address had a major fire back in 2013.
Cople Assistant Chief Todd Padgett said that the fire was so intense and engulfed so much of the home, units from every fire/rescue division in Westmoreland County were called in along with the Westmoreland County Sherriff Department and Virginia State Police.
Engine and pump units came from Callao Fire Department and as far away as Fairfield Fire Department in Reedville.
A visit to the scene revealed extreme damage to the home, burned grass around the front and middle where the bulk of the fire burned and remains of charred wood and twisted metal everywhere.
The damage is extensive and the cedar shake roof obviously fed the fire.
On the scene this day was Tom Mills, a property claims specialist with Erie insurance Company whose job is to determine the extent and cost of damage.
Mills said in his and Erie’s view, the “cause of the fire is under investigation but it is believed to have started from an electrical source.”
Assistant Chief Padgett said the Virginia State Police are routinely investigating the cause of the fire, but stopped short of supporting Mill’s statement of electrical causation.
Padgett expressed his gratitude for the help received from all the different responders.
