Joy to the Beach

Posted on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 9:50 am

As snow began to fall, the members of the Connexion Chamber Choir of Colonial Beach began to gather to warm up their voices for their first concert on Sunday at Colonial Beach Baptist Church. The 31-member strong chorus was founded in August by artistic director Benjamin Swanson.

Swanson is the music teacher at Colonial Beach Elementary School where he teaches pre-kindergarten through seventh grade students. Students participated in band, choir, and the school spring musical under Swanson’s tutelage. Swanson holds a Bachelor of Music with concentrations in Music Theater Performance and Music education. He is a graduate of James Madison University.

He is also a seasoned performer having performed masterworks such as “Chichester Psalms” and “Johannes-Passion.” Swanson, as part of JMU’s Madison singers, also performed with recording artist Josh Groban in 2015.
