The Colonial Beach Lady Drifters varsity basketball team went on the road and loss to the Rappahannock Lady Raiders on Monday, February 12. The Lady Drifters found themselves behind (0-8) mid-way through the first period and didn’t score until the final minute (2-10). During the first fourteen minutes of the game the Lady Drifters recorded two made baskets and were behind (5-20) with 1:49 left in the first half. They had their best quarter in the third when they scored ten points, but they fell further behind (15-46) with one quarter to play. The Lady Drifters would be down by as much as thirty points and loss (25-55). You could hear the Lady Drifters coaches yelling “Run the play, run the offense, take care of the ball, someone shoot.” The coach’s sentiments were being echoed by the Lady Drifters fans that were frustrated and distraught; they showed their contempt by screaming “Do you want to be here, are you actually trying, I know you can play better than that, would someone shoot the ball?” The Lady Drifters went on the road to play in the first round of the regional tournament against Mathews. The teams were tied at the end of the first period (9-9). The Blue Devils made a few more baskets in the second to lead (17-23) at the half. Both teams struggled in the third quarter; they scored in single digits (8-6) to make it a (25-29) game. The teams knew time was running out on their season, so they found some scoring and had their best output with (16-15). The Lady Drifters season came to an end with the score (41-44). The Lady Drifters had a tough start to their season then strung together a couple wins to get into both tournaments. This was a year to learn for the Lady Drifters; good luck with the future.
