The W&L Lady Eagles varsity volleyball team defeated the Chincoteague Lady Ponies in the second round of the regional playoffs on Tuesday, October 30. The Lady Eagles took control of the match and won in straight sets (3-0). The first set was (25-19), the second set was a runaway (25-9), and the third was similar to the first (25-19). Working on their ball control, they got their passing and first contact down to make the match look easy. The team was a few players short, so Head Coach Drew Hutt had to make a few position changes and adapt his rotation. They worked through the variations with good communication. Anna Boswell led the team with 11 kills, 5 aces, 10 digs, 10 assts, AC Harding 6 kills, 2 aces, 11 digs, 17 assts, Makaila Veney 6 kills, 3 aces, 5 blocks, Kennise Gray 2 kills, 4 blocks, 2 digs, Devonna Fisher 1 kill, 3 blocks, 1 dig, and Megan Smith 4 kills. The Lady Eagles next match was against the defending 1A State champs Mathew Blue Devils on Thursday November 1. They were behind in all three sets and loss (0-3) to end their season. The Lady Eagles would rally and make the sets close even go ahead in the last set but could not get a win to push the Lady Blue Devils. This team had one of the best seasons in Lady Eagles volleyball; they only dropped one NND game and were first in the regular season. Congrats to the Lady Eagles volleyball on a well-played and entertaining season.
