Through the generosity of a disaster grant from the Jessie Ball DuPont Fund, River Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross Coastal Virginia region was excited to be able to purchase a trailer to hold disaster relief supplies already situated in Richmond County. With the generous support of Carry-on-Trailer and Cooperative Helping Hands for additional funding, it was possible to obtain a second trailer to be situated in Westmoreland County. The trailer in Westmoreland will have cots and blankets to be utilized in times of disasters in shelters in Westmoreland and Colonial Beach.
In times of disaster it has been difficult for both the County and Red Cross volunteers to transport cots and blankets to our high school which would be used as the shelter for Richmond County. Now the response partners are able to utilize one vehicle as a “one stop – drop off point,” in preparing shelter operations.
The Rivers Counties Chapter is part of the American Red Cross Coastal Virginia Region which serves 1.8 million people in a 4800 square mile area extending from the Northern Neck to the North Carolina border.
