For 19 years Colonial Beach Loyal Order of Moose #1267 has hosted the March Madness Dart Tournament during the first weekend of the month. From its early days as the Colonial Beach Classic the three-day event has drawn dart players from all over.
This year hosts and founder, Richard and Ruth Pietras, welcomed players from as far away as London, Ontario, Canada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and throughout Maryland and Virginia. As darts continues to grow as a sport more and more tournaments are held every year.
CB Moose has welcomed the players, and worked hard to keep them coming back, over the history of the event. From bartenders to cooks to the Women of the Moose’s bake sale, the weekend takes a lot of work to keep the more than 115 dart players, and their guests, fed and happy.
LOOM 1267’s administrator Warren Sprouse was a key to keeping this weekend running. With volunteerism at the Moose down, as it is in most non-profit groups, Sprouse was a tour de force at the Moose Home this weekend. You could not turn around without seeing him cleaning a table, checking in guests, or making sure problems were nipped in the bud.
