Wild for Problem Solving was the theme for Math Night at Washington District Elementary School. Spearheaded by Math Coach Jason Scherm, students and adults were treated to math games, activities, and problem solving situations. They were able to speak with individuals who have exciting jobs in math related careers. Participants also viewed cool math websites and apps that they can access on their phones or on home computers.
Scherm noted that it was important for parents and guardians to provide opportunities for students to see how math occurs in their everyday lives and to make daily living a time to have fun with math. He has suggested that parents help students with elapsed time by incorporating some problem solving in their daily activities. For example, when children go out to play and you tell them to be home by 5:15 pm, ask them how much time that gives them to play.
