For the first time since 2007 Colonial Beach voters will have two names on the ballot for the Fifth District Board of Supervisors seat. Incumbent Lawrence “Larry” Roberson is being challenged by Timothy “Tim” Trivett for the seat.
This is an unusual election as Trivett and Roberson are neighbors and have been for 20 years.
Both men are long-time Colonial Beach residents and have served in elected positions in town.
Roberson served on the Colonial Beach Town Council from 1986 – 2002. He then took a few years break from politics before running for the Fifth District Board of Supervisors seat in 2007. He won that election, then again in 2011 and 2015.
Trivett has served as the chairperson for the Colonial Beach School Board for the past 11 years.
Both are family men. Roberson has been married to his wife, Vicky, since 1982 and has four children. Trivett has been married to wife, Colleen, for 38 years. He has two children.
In their careers they have served in divergent manners. Roberson was a school teacher at Colonial Beach Public Schools for all of his career. He retired after teaching Government and Civics to generations of children. He is now working for Blossman Gas.
