The skies over the Northern Neck threatened storms all day May 10, but in the end, the Menokin Music Festival Pick Nick went off unhindered by the weather.
Set on the grounds of the home of Francis Lightfoot Lee (signer of the Declaration of Independence), the festival is an annual event to raise money for the preservation of Menokin and to help make the Menokin Project come to fruition.
This year’s show opened with Old Dogs New Tricks. Through guitar, banjo, mandolin, upright bass, and smooth vocal harmonies, they played an assortment of classic bluegrass favorites.
Next up was Faithful Connection. The gospel group’s rhythmic guitar playing was quite inspirational, and the harmonizing singers left most of the crowd wanting more.
