The day dawned bright and sunny and the populace showed their interest as numerous persons strolled through the courtyard square in Montross this past Saturday. Young and old stopped to peruse the vendors, chat with friends and listen to the band as the morning progressed.
From fresh baked goods by Pope’s Creek Baptist Church to the first strawberries of the season offered by Lois’s Produce, there were plenty of items available for both sampling and purchase. Vendors at the first Market Day of the year included the two previously mentioned as well as Lovers Retreat Dairy, Handcrafted Pottery, Northern Neck Master Gardeners, Sho-Nuff Bar B Q, Friends of Westmoreland State Park, Westmoreland Berry Farm, Hague Winery, and others without signage. Carrot Cottage and the Westmoreland County Museum had displays out as well.
In the courtyard square, the band 55 and Alive kept up a steady stream of music as attendees pulled up their lawn chairs to enjoy the morning festivities.
The Montross Market Days are sponsored by the Greater Montross Partnership for Revitalization (GMPR). The next scheduled Market Day is June 7. For more information or to register, please contact Becky Nelson at 703-598-2112.
