Mud run in Kilmarnock, Sept. 14

Posted on Monday, August 5, 2013 at 11:12 am

The Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA’s Resident Camp, Camp Kekoka is excited to announce they are hosing their first annual Mud Run Saturday Sept. 14 in Kilmarnock. This is a fundraiser to benefit the YMCA/APYC Camp Kekoka’s Guardian Program.  This financial scholarship program, enables children to participate and attend camp, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.

The Kekoka Mud Run is a seriously fun 5K run with obstacles! Test your mental and physical toughness at the Kekoka Mud Run being held on the grounds of YMCA Camp Kekoka in Kilmarnock. All runners get an awesome shirt and a one of a kind challenge coin to show off to their friends who decided not to do the run. Trust us…they will wish they had one.

This run is for adults only, ages 18 and older.  Cost is $30 until Aug. 15, $40 after Aug. 15th, $50 day of race. Check-in starts at 8 a.m. Run starts at 10 a.m.

Stop by your local YMCA or visit peninsulaymca.org to register today. Questions? Call 435-0223.

Mud Run obstacles include: Lumberjack – runners pick up a small piece of wood (3 to 25 pounds…their choice) and carry it for the first quarter mile; Hanging tough – runners traverse a short rope obstacle at the dock…they will not be more than two feet over the water and the water depth is 3.5 feet; Hay hurdles – A series of square and round hay that runners have to go over; Tree wall – a natural wall from a tree that runners have to climb over; Swamp wars – a low crawl area through a creek area that is pretty muddy; Michelin mayhem – a series of tire obstacles (close to 100 tires total); Stage fright – low crawl area under the stage that will be pretty muddy; and Treading grace – water run around grace point (70 yards along the bank of the camp in water that is 1-3 feet deep)
