Melvin Lee Morgan
Melvin Lee Morgan, 51, of Marriottsville, Md., died Friday, March 22, 2013. He was born Jan. 21, 1962. Melvin loved helping others, working outdoors, spending time on the river and being with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Colleen M. Morgan; and sons Thomas A. Morgan and Patrick D. Finn. Melvin is also survived by his father and stepmother, Alvin and Joan Morgan; and siblings Ronald “Peanut” Morgan, Susan Robey and Linda Whicker-LiCalzi. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol J. Morgan. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at Grace United Methodist Church, Rollins Fork, with the Rev. Ted James officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Barbara Ann Hornbeak
Barbara Ann Hornbeak, 75, of Clinton, Md. passed away Feb. 28, 2013 at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, Clinton, Md. Born Nov. 11, 1937 in Fredericksburg, Va. and raised in Colonial Beach. Barbara was an avid reader, especially of the Bible. Predeceased by her parents Henry Hunter Rose and Alberta Shelton Rose and siblings, Henry Thornton Rose, Jerry Lowell Rose and Betty Jean Rose. Ann is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Carl Douglas Hornbeak; sons, Todd Eric Hornbeak of Waldorf, Md. and William Bradley Hornbeak (Margaret) of Mechanicsville, Md.; brothers, Robert Rose (Beatrice) and Ellis Thomas Rose (Pat); sister, Joyce Darnell (Rose) Nave; sister-in-law, Madeline (Loeffler) Rose, and grandchildren, Carla Hornbeak DiMichele, Brandon Carl, Stephanie Ann and Brittany Faye Hornbeak.
The family received friends for Barbara’s Life Celebration on Monday, March 4, 2013 Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home. A gathering was held at Grace Chapel Ministries, Mechanicsville, Md. on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Pastor Carl H. Snyder officiated. Interment followed at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, Md. Pallbearers were Joey Coon, Nick DiMichele, Sean Quade, Matt Finkbiner, Donny Rovito and Jimmy Green. Sally Rose Chappelle Zimmerman
Sally Rose Chappelle Zimmerman, 96, of Colonial Beach passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital. Sally was born March 23, 1916, in Portsmouth. She lived and taught school in Alexandria from 1940 to 1975, when she moved to Potomac Shores, Colonial Beach. She was a graduate of Longwood College and a member of Colonial Beach Baptist Church and Women of the Moose.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Jett of Tennessee; granddaughter, Jessica Jett of Pennsylvania; and grandson, Wayne Brooks of Texas. Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Zimmerman; and son Robert W. Zimmerman. A memorial service was held Monday, March 25, at Colonial Beach Baptist Church.
