Obituaries, week of Aug. 28: Rock, Sanders, Vechery

Leonard Rock


Leonard LeRoy Rock, Sr., 67, of Ophelia, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2013. He was an employee for Wood Preservers for 36 years, a Running Back for the first football team for Rappahannock High School, a Pitcher for the Luttreville Windmill softball team, as well as a Pitcher for the fast pitch Texaco’s softball team and a member at both Bethany Baptist Church and Afton United Methodist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Annie Gaskins Rock; sons, Lennie Rock, Jr. (Kathy) and Jeffrey Rock; sisters, Mary Ellen Butler, Nancy King and Eloise “Nuchie” Taylor; brother, Willie “Junior” Rock; grandchildren, Trey Rock, Shelby Rock and Ava Rock, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Rock was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Bertha Rock, as well as his brother, Ronnie Rock.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Bethany Baptist Church. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Thursday. Timothy Wayne Sanders


Timothy Wayne Sanders, 28, of Montross, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2013.  He is survived by his parents, Wayne Sanders (Janet) and Charlene Duljac (Steve; daughters, Addison and Skylar Sanders and brother, Wayne Sanders, Jr. (Meredith).

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Rappahannock Baptist Church. Reverend Willard Bowen and Reverend David Johnson officiated.  Interment was in

Rappahannock Baptist Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Robby Nash, Robert Berry, Robert Bowen, Sam Packett, William Bowen, Jimmy Nash, Daniel Rose and Douglas Shepherd.  Nathan Worrell was honorary pallbearer.

Edyth Vechery


Edyth Gae (Babylon) Vechery, 69, formerly of Colonial Beach, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 2, 2013. Eydie worked part time as an insurance agent while she was married and raising her family. She provided care to her parents and other family members along her journey in life. She enjoyed working outdoors, anything pink and providing homes to many stray animals.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fannye (Taylor) and Calvin S. Babylon and her favorite uncle, Lloyd Babylon. Eydie is survived by her children, Brig. General James Vechery ( Robin), Jenny Washburn (Mark) and Jacqueline Vechery; grandchildren,  2nd Lt. Taylor Dunlap (Steve), James Starner Vechery and Mari Vechery; cousin Annette (Messick) Moore; and her former husband, James R. Vechery.

The viewing was held Saturday, August 10 at Colonial Beach Baptist Church with the funeral right after, officiated by Rev. Johnny Almond.

The Interment was held Monday, August 12 in Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Maryland.
