The new Colonial Beach Town Council members took their seats and went right to work at the first session of the year. Council members Vicki Roberson, Robin Schick, and Pat Ey won their seats in the November election over incumbents Bill Dellar and Phil Rogers.
Diving right in, the council heard an update from Suzan French Gennace and Douglas Patten of FlackShack. In 2018 Flackshack was hired to work on marketing the town of Colonial Beach as a tourist destination mainly within day trip range of town.
With goals of increasing tourism, branding the town and marketing town events FlackShack has gotten CB exposure in a number of areas. Features in multiple magazines and various travel blogs have brought in new people to visit the town according to Gennace.
A strong use of social media from Facebook, Instagram, Yelp and Twitter has helped to bring more eyes to town information as well. The Visit CBVA account on Instagram has featured numerous local photographers from professionals to amateurs and brought in eyes from various news stations and writers.
Gennace is now working on getting Colonial Beach write-ups into magazines as well. While newspapers and blogs have short lead times magazine articles are typically written three to six, or more, months in advance meaning that now is the time to get CB into the mind of writers.
