Residents rage over new parking rates

“What are they smoking in Colonial Beach? 30 bucks to park! Nope!” said Mike Cooke on the Potomac River Fishing Report Facebook page following the increase of parking fees in the town. Parking for the boat ramp located on the Point near Castlewood Park recently increased from $20 to $30. $20 per day for a car and an additional $10 per day for the trailer.

Parking in the town lots and along Beach and Irving Avenues also increased from $1 per hour to $2 an hour with a maximum cost of $20 per day. Local residents with town stickers are exempt from the fees.

Anger among posters all over Facebook was evident with boaters comparing the rates to Virginia Beach showing one lot at $15 per vehicle with trailer. The only difference is distance from lot to the ramp.
