At the Westmoreland County School Board meeting the topic of safety shades was discussed. These shades would maximize safety within the classroom, protecting the students from outside dangers.
The safety shades, which the School Board got a demonstration of down in Williamsburg, have been installed in Montross Middle School, and Washington District Elementary is next in line. The shades are designed to allow those on the inside to look out, while preventing those on the outside from looking in, much like a two-way mirror. According to Superintendent Dr. Michael Perry, the installation of the safety shades for Washington District should be complete by the end of March.
