Colonial Beach Schools and Superintendent Dashan Turner are asking the town to increase funding to the school system. Over the past four years, the town has given the school the same amount of funding: $2,299,917. The funding was dropped to this level in fiscal year 2015 from the previous year with funding of $2,530,701.
At that time, the council decided the school could get by on less funding. The request for the 2019-2020 funding is $2,515,699, which is still less than the funding given back in 2015.
The total budget for 2019-2020 is set just below $8 million at $7,990,262. Only 31% of funding comes from local revenues. A small portion comes from federal monies with the majority $4,620,000 coming from various state funding.
