Washington & Lee High School counselors recently held a Senior Boot Camp for the upcoming Class of 2020 students. Designed to encompass all areas of important topics for college and work bound students, the event was set up with three seminar sessions for families to choose from.
The topics being presented were resume writing (Patty Long- GEAR UP director); SAT and ACT (Caroline Lacy, (W&L counselor); financial aid, (Letitia Seymour, GRASP advisor); essay writing, (Nancy Ristau, W&L English teacher); scholarships, (Stefanie Payne, W&L Registrar); RCC application process, (Osuanah Kelly, RCC advisor); and college search, (Patricia Eddings, W&L counselor).
Parents and students went from room to room for their selected programs. Information was also available on scholarships, GEAR UP, and college applications. Students were also pleased to meet the new College Advisor at W&L, Ms. Nicole Izurieta.
A GEAR UP kick-off “Senior Year” is scheduled for September 24, following a bus trip to the Virginia Wesleyan University Scholarship Fair on September 21.
