The St. James Festival Choir, known in this area for quality performances of works by renowned composers is pleased to announce its spring performance scheduled for May 5 at 3 p.m. at the St. James Episcopal church in Montross.
The presentation will feature Franz Schubert’s “Mass in F”, a stirring version of his rendition of the standard Liturgy. The power of this music is derived from its simple chordal base that expands into soaring melodic stanzas.
The other major piece to be exhibited is Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria in D”, another liturgical work that displays this composer’s typical styling of lovely Baroque counterpoint combined with a lightness of character that only Vivaldi could write.
The concert has been assembled by, and is to be conducted by Donald Boyer, who is renowned for his talent and resourcefulness in bringing these presentations to our community. The instrumental section will be supplied by Organist Benjamin Cox, an unbelievably capable keyboard artist who has been described by the composer and conductor, Lindsay Lafford as “a one-man orchestra.”
The prominent guest singer will be Kyrah Rodriguez, who’s bright soprano solos should be recalled by anyone who has heard any of her past performances at St. James.
