Martia (pronounced Mar-tee-ah) Jones, of Montross Virginia, was recently named the 2017 recipient of Stratford University’s Golden Opportunity Scholarship contest. In early February, Stratford University partnered with WRLH FOX Richmond to create a campaign inviting anyone interested in pursuing a degree at Stratford University’s Glen Allen campus to enter for a chance to win a scholarship valued at up to $33,000. Candidates were asked to submit an essay outlining why they wanted the scholarship and how they would make the most of their Golden Opportunity. After reviewing all of the entries, a panel of Judges selected Martia Jones as Stratford University’s 2017 Golden Opportunity Scholarship award winner.
Martia plans on putting the scholarship to good use by bringing the skills she’ll gain in Stratford’s Culinary Arts Department, back home to Montross. “I look forward to obtaining a degree in Baking and Pastry Arts and later opening my own Bakery, Baby Cakes by Tia…To be able to provide my community with an array of tasty treats is truly a dream of mine.”
Stratford University’s Director of Admissions, Dr. Yuri Tuppince commented, “The Golden Opportunity Scholarship was established to commemorate Stratford University’s 40 years of changing lives, one student at a time.”
