Over the past year and a half Colonial Beach Public Schools has faced a hurricane, earthquake and flooding from a tropical storm.
Now, the school superintendent responsible for steering the school system through the storm has resigned.
On Oct. 11, Dr. Donna Power notified the faculty and staff of the school system that she would be leaving CBPS effective Nov. 30. Power has been offered a position with Page County Public Schools. She stated in an email to the Westmoreland News that “I have always wanted to live in this area of the state and the opportunity recently became available.”
Power was appointed on Aug. 6, 2009 as the Division Superintendent for Colonial Beach Public Schools by the school board. She has served CBPS since that time. Prior to her tenure. Dr. Alice Howard was superintendent of the school division.
Power received her doctor of philosophy in educational leadership and policy from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2007. She received her master’s of education degree in special education from St. John University and another master of education degree in administration and supervision from Fordham University. She received her bachelor in education degree in elementary education from Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Virginia.
