January is typically the organizational meeting for the Colonial Beach Town Council (TC). This year, the council started off by postponing the vote on the by-laws until February. Newly appointed council member Pete Bone asked to discuss it at the January work session. Bone said he had some suggestions on how things were done when he was mayor from 1996 until 2008.
Resolution 10-14, which asked that any matter that comes before the council be discussed before the date of the vote, was also postponed. Council member Wanda Goforth proposed the resolution in response to the surprise appointment of Bone as well as council member Gary Seeber’s last minute holiday bonus proposal for town employees.
Resolution 11-14, which asks for town staff to have a finished list of all town owned properties by February 1st, was also held over. Council member Linda Brubaker asked for this to be done, stating that she had been waiting for the list for two years. Brubaker was appointed in January of 2013 to fill Mike Ham’s vacated seat.
Also held off was approval of the meeting minutes for September and October.
Mayor Ham proposed that the town council go back to the system of the council member who received the highest number of votes become vice-mayor for two years. The council agreed and appointed Tommy Edwards to the position again.
