Washing & Lee Eagles have talent and experience in softball

With an unfulfilling season last year, the Washington and Lee Softball team started off this season Wednesday with a huge shutout home-opener against the Middlesex Chargers 10-0.
The Eagles started off strong with a great defense and came alive with the bats in the coming innings. Freshman, Alicen McIntosh and Senior, Alondra Anderson both hit shots to the fence to drive in significant runs for the Eagles to give them the lead in early frames. Freshman, Kelly Taylor was also a great asset to the team with two RBI’s and a firm position on 3rd base. Junior Anne Carter Harding returns to the mound this year, and she struck out seven batters in the first outing.
When asked what is expected for this season, Coach Cottom said, “We are a talented and experienced squad. We have depth that we have not had in quite a while. If our ladies can cut down on errors and get hits in critical situations, we are poised for a great season. The Lady Eagles can beat anyone on our schedule. We just need to have confidence in ourselves and each other.”
The Lady Eagles are pumped for an exciting season and are ready for each and every game.
