WDE parent Bethany Bojorquez and her children Izabella and Izaac have fun at Literacy Night.

WDE first graders sing songs from Seussical the Musical.

Students and parents gathered for two monumental events at Washington District Elementary School to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2 and on March 6 to attend Literacy Night. Students from Pre-K to fifth grade gathered in the halls for the annual “Favorite Book Character” parade. The halls were filled with little Harry Potters’, Fancy Nancy’s, Amelia Bedelia, Clifford the dog, famous sports legends, and every other book character you could describe. Each grade paraded through the hallways to the delight of all the students and teachers. Costumes glittered and glowed in all the grades.
Parents joined the fun on March 6 for Literacy Night. All evening long the students and parents played Dr. Seuss literacy games and crafts such as Lorax crafts, journals, Cat in the Hat puppets, and a green egg rhyming hunt. Refreshments reflected the theme of the night with Cat in the Hat string cheese, goldfish crackers, and drinks. The first graders entertained the crowd with a medley of songs from Seussical the Musical.

Congratulations to the staff of Washington District Elementary School for another successful reading event.
