The Northern Neck figured prominently in the recent Spotsy Arts Festival held at Spotsylvania Court House. Its promoter is artist Janice Jones of Stratford Harbor in Westmoreland County, and the second place winner of the poster contest promoting the event is Jackie Leavitt of Callao in Northumberland County.
Jones formed the non-profit organization JART, Inc. in 2016 to plan art-themed events and use excess proceeds to put back into art programs in schools or senior centers in the locality where the event was held. The Spotsy Arts Festival, held Aug. 11 and 12, was the first such JART juried art event. There were 41 artists and although Jones wasn’t sure of the number of public who came, she said she is “euphoric, still doing a happy dance” about the attendance. “You just never know,” she said. “You try to get the word out, but you don’t know until the event takes place how many will come.”
Jackie Leavitt came in 2nd place in promotion poster contest.
