Westmoreland County Public Schools’ School Safety Advisor, Senior Deputy Kim Simon, was recently named the 2018 Virginia D.A.R.E. Officer of the Year.  Mrs. Simon received her recognition award from the state coordinator, Rob Hefner and the D.A.R.E. Association president, Glen Keene, on August 7, at the state meeting in Hampton. Her award was given “for her passion and efforts with the students at Westmoreland County and for bringing the D.A.R.E. Christmas party to the community.”

Mrs. Simon has been an active advocate for the D.A.R.E. program ever since she began her duties at Westmoreland County Schools.  Her enthusiasm and expertise has been a large drawing card for packed audiences at local PTO meetings.  She noted upon receiving this state honor, “Working with our kids for the past two years has been the most rewarding in my entire career.  It was humbling to be acknowledged by the Virginia D.A.R.E. Association. They say ‘it takes a village to raise a child.’  I have been fortunate to be a small part of this wonderful village of Westmoreland County.”
