“Too close for comfort,” said Head Coach Michael Fisher after the W&L Lady Eagles defeated the Rappahannock Lady Raiders in a battle for first place in the district on Thursday, January 24. The Lady Eagles were behind early (0-4), (2-6), and (5-6) mid-way through the first period. After being down (5-8) with 3:22 to go, they went on an (8-0) run to end the quarter up (13-8). Both teams hit three pointers to make it (16-11) then the visitor to their biggest lead (21-13) with 1:12 to play in the second period. The half ended with the same score. The Lady Raiders rallied to cut the lead to (23-20) at the 5:29 mark of the third. The runs continued and the Lady Eagles were pushed the lead back to seven (29-22) with 2:31 to go and it was (31-25) with eight minutes to play. Up by nine (36-27) with 4:40 to play they were in good position. An (0-8) run by the home team made it (36-35) with 1:22 left.
