The Washington and Lee High School Concert Choir and Concert Band traveled to Orlando, FL. May 2-6, and participated in the “Music in the Parks” performance festival. Forty-five students made the trip. This festival takes place at major theme parks all over the country, and until this year the W&L music department primarily visited festival locations in VA and MD. As the music department has grown in size and prestige, the staff and students desired to spread our musical talents farther than we had in previous years.
Each music ensemble performed three concert selections for a panel of adjudicators, before enjoying Universal Studios theme park. At the end of Saturday, the music ensembles were both awarded 1st place in their respective divisions (Concert Band, Class A, Mixed Choir, Class A), and also received an assessment rating of “Excellent.” Music instructors Kelly Wright, choir and Tyler Engel, band, accompanied the group.
