For those itching to drive past Hurt Field and see water in Chandler’s Mill Pond, this year may be the last time we see it dry. While the dam is still not close to completion, workers put a rough estimate for its completion – barring complications from severe weather or other circumstances – in the neighborhood of the end of the year.
A storm in 2015 caused severe erosion under the dam’s spillway, forcing the pond to be drained to prevent further damage. Since that time, surveys were conducted, funding secured, and bids thrown around until at last, in 2018, the engineering firm of Buchart Horn was selected.
