The Washington & Lee JV Girls Basketball Team will be adding some familiar faces to their coaching staff. In addition to returning head coach Elizabeth Beckham
for the varsity team, standout Caroline Young will lead the JV squad this season.
Young was not only a member of the W&L girls’ basketball program; she also played on the AAU level. Young was excited to receive the position after her tenure playing in college.
“I spent a lot of time practicing and playing basketball in college. I just didn’t want it to be over,” Young said. “Basketball has been a part of my life for a long time. I knew I had the skill set, basketball knowledge and patience it takes to be a coach.”
Young completed her collegiate basketball career at Averett University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in political science this past April. While working to earn her teacher’s license, Young is a substitute teacher for the Westmoreland County School Division and in the evenings instructing student athletes on the hardwood.
