The Colonial Beach Drifters got their year and district off to a hot start by going (3-0) for the week. The Drifters host the Essex Trojans on Wednesday, January 2 and coasted to a win. Head Coach Keith Dickerson said, “Our goal is to play hard, play fast, play the entirety of the play, and hopefully good things will happen.” They went ahead (10-0) with 6:10 to play in the first period. The Trojans scored seconds later to make it (10-2). The Drifters were up (19-4) and closed out first (22-6). They kept up the on-ball pressure and ran their offense to maintain their lead (36-19) at the half. The Trojans turnovers and missed shots led to a Drifters twenty-point advantage (41-21) with 6:44 to go in the third period. The home team were up (52-29) at the end of the third. Both teams found their offense in the fourth quarter and the visitor won the output (24-25) but the Drifters were ahead by too much and took the game (76-54).
