Hot rods bring the heat

For 40 years the Colonial Rod Club has hosted the annual Rod Run to the Beach in August. Held this past weekend on Town Hill, the annual event drew cars from all over the tri-state area.

The weather was extremely hot and humid which may have slowed down the crowds’ pace; however, it didn’t stop them. A steady flow of visitors filled the hill throughout the two-day event.

Karen McDougal, 47, from Baltimore said, “This is the best car show I’ve been to this year. You can see the river from up here [top of the hill] and the cars are amazing.”

Local boy Anthony “AJ” Samarro and his little brother were walking the hill trying to decide which cars deserved their votes for kid’s choice award.

Together, the Colonial Rod Club, and the Colonial Beach Chamber of Commerce host this car show as well as the Father’s Day Show on the hill.

The sun glistens off the many cars at the 40th Annual Rod Run to the Beach on Town Hill.
