Bad: you’ve gone off a road, into a ditch, and into somebody’s yard. Worse: you’ve just backed over a person in an attempt to get out of there! This was precisely the mess that Steven Mayhew pled guilty to last week in Westmoreland’s Circuit Court; specifically a count of Hit-and-Run, as well as his third DUI within 10 years.
The incident that led to Mayhew’s arrest happened on January 20 this year, when Mayhew’s drunk driving caused him to go off of the road, into a ditch, and onto a nearby yard. In the process of backing out, he hit a man by the name of Keith Hussy, leaving the man with a broken ankle and several other injuries, before driving off. Trooper Snyder of the Virginia State Police showed up after the collision was called in, and was given a partial plate number by Hussy and those who had witnessed the hit and run.
