Colonial Beach School Board recognized several people at their December meeting. Superintendent Dashaun Turner presented business teacher Janet Dunderdale with the W!SE Gold Star Teacher Award for having 93% of her students, in at least one class, pass a financial literacy test.
The W!SE Financial Literacy Certification Program addresses the need for financial education and literacy. The program addresses this need at the high school level. Developed in 2003 it is a national program that has been shown to succeed in helping students become more financially literate.
CBHS also received the W!SE Blue Star Award for having more than 80% of students pass the financial literacy test.
Turner also presented former school board member Scott Foster with a plaque in recognition of his time with the board. Originally elected to the Colonial Beach School Board as a write-in without actually running for the board, Foster joined the board on January 1, 2013. He was re-elected in 2016.
Following the graduation of his daughter, Madison, Foster and wife Rachael moved to Fredericksburg. At that time he resigned his position on the board. Not only was Foster an integral part of the school board that made it through the elementary school fire, but also a fierce volunteer for the school system.
